Background
If you want to make some simple biscuits over the winter holidays, try this recipe! These yummy ginger and orange cookies will make your home smell divine! Also, they can be easily and beautifully decorated then hung from the tree or given as gift to your friends and loved ones.
Ingredients
- 350g flour
- 1-2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 100g butter or margarine
- 150g soft brown sugar
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp golden syrup or honey
- 1 orange, zested
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C.
- Mix the flour with the baking soda, then crumble in the butter. Work it with your fingers until you get a mixture resembling breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, syrup, orange peel and egg. Mix until you get a firm dough. Chill for a while in the fridge, if time allows.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly-floured surface to about 5mm thick and stamp out Christmassy shapes.
- Put them on lined or non-stick baking sheet then bake for 10 to 15 minutes until lightly golden.
- Cool them on a wire rack then decorate to your liking - dip them in melted chocolate or icing; draw on them with icing pen; or just dust with icing sugar or edible glitter.
Tips
You can make variations of these cookies to suit other occasions too - for Valentine's day cut out heart shapes, for Halloween cut out bats, moons and pumpkins!© 2024 Copyright CookTogether
