Crab curry

Crab is favorite among sea-food lovers in India. Crabs are available in different types and sizes. Crab meat is high in protein, Omega-3, vitamins and minerals. This is my grandma's recipe which I learnt from my mom. In this recipe I have used fresh spices.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Crabs
  • 2 big Onions finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Curry leaves springs
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • Handful of Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • For spices powder:
  • 2 ” Cinnamon stick
  • 2 Cloves
  • 3 Cardamoms
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • For ground paste:
  • ½ cup Grated coconut
  • 3 Green chillies

Method
 

  1. Grind the grated coconut, green chillies to a paste and keep aside.
  2. Grind cinnamon stick, cloves,cardamoms,black pepper to fine powder and set aside.
  3. Clean the crabs and cut them. Add ½ tsp salt and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan. Add chopped onions and fry till golden brown.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and curry leaves, sauté for a minute.
  6. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder.
  7. Now add the crabs and mix well to coat them with the masala.
  8. Add salt to taste and some water, cover and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  9. Add the ground paste and powdered spices. Let the gravy simmer for 10 minutes.
  10. Finally add chopped coriander leaves and switch off. This curry goes well with steamed white rice or roti.
