Curry leaves powder

Curry leaves are rich source of Iron and they are often used in seasoning and very important ingredient in south Indian dishes. This powder is a side and goes well with rice and ghee. It also makes a good side for breakfast dishes like Idli or Dosa.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup curry leaves
  • 2 tsp oil
  • ¼ split chickpeas or chana dal
  • 2 Tbsp black gram or urad dal
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • Small piece tamarind
  • 4 dried red chilli
  • 2 Tbsp dried coconut
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • ½ tsp salt

Method
 

  1. Take a pan and dry roast the curry leaves until they turn crunchy on low flame. Set aside to cool.
  2. In the same pan, add the oil and roast chana dal,urad dal and coriander seeds until the raw smell subsides and turn golden. Set aside to cool.
  3. Add the tamarind, red chillies and coconut , dry roast them as well. Set aside to cool.
  4. Add all the roasted ingredients to a blender and add pinch of asafoetida and salt.
  5. Blend to fine powder and store in dry airtight jar.
  6. Enjoy it with hot rice and ghee.
