Dosa (Indian pancake)

Dosa is an Indian pancake made of lentils and rice soaked overnight and blended togetherĀ and the batter is fermented. It is a very famous breakfast in the South of India. It goes well with coconut chutney or peanut chutney or sambar.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup White lentil urad dal
  • 2 Cups Basmati rice
  • Water as required
  • Salt as required
  • Oil as required

Method
 

  1. Soak the lentils and rice separately overnight and drain.
  2. In a blender, grind the lentils adding water little by little to make a smooth paste and set it aside in a bowl.
  3. Grind the rice to a smooth paste by adding water little by little taking care not to make it watery.
  4. Mix both the pastes and salt together and let it ferment for 6 hrs or until it doubles up.
  5. Heat a pancake pan and scoop a spoonful of batter and spread it around so that it is spread evenly and thin.
  6. Add few drops of oil on the edges of the pancake so that it doesn't stick to the pan.
  7. When the pancake turns brown, remove it from the pan.
  8. Serve hot with chutney.
