Green tomato chutney

Green tomato chutney is a recipe that goes well with anything. We often enjoy eating our dishes with various dips, relishes or chutney. The sesame seeds used in here will enhance the taste. As this is made using unripe tomatoes, it comes loaded with vitamin C and is in effect considered a healthier option.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 large raw tomatoes
  • 6-7 green chillies
  • 4 garlic pods
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • 3 Tbsp white sesame seeds powder
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp tamarind pulp
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • ¼ tsp mustard
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • Pinch of asafetida
  • 2 broken red chillies
  • 1 spring curry leaves

Method
 

  1. Dry roast sesame seeds and powder them in a blender. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry green chillies, set aside.
  3. In the same pan, fry tomatoes till half cooked.
  4. When tomatoes cool down, transfer them to a blender. Add green chillies, salt, turmeric, garlic, cumin, sesame seed powder and blend them.
  5. Heat oil in a small pan, add cumin, mustard, asafetida, broken red chilli, curry leaves and sauté for a minute. Pour this over the chutney.
  6. Enjoy the chutney with idli, dosa or with plain rice.
