Miso steak

This miso steak can be served with side dishes of you choice (for example sweet potato mash and stir-fried veggies) or you can sliced it and add to a salad or a soup. Also, you can make wonderful little party nibbles by carving the steak into very thin slices and wrapping some marinated carrot & radish matchsticks (or other filling) into them.

Ingredients

  • 1 large matured sirloin steak
  • 1 tsp miso paste
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp mirin
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • Ground pepper

Method

  1. Mix the ingredients into a paste and massage the steak with this. Let it rest for about 30-60 minutes, if time allows.
  2. Heat a griddle pan and brush it with oil. When hot, place the steak in the pan and cook for 30 seconds over high heat then turn it over and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Turn down the heat and cook for 3-5 minutes on each side to your liking, turning every minute.
  4. Rest for 5-10 minutes on a chipping board, before slicing it.
