Peanut chutney

Peanut chutney is  mildly spicy and makes a tasty side dish for several snack foods and breakfast dishes like Dosa, Idly, Medhu vada. This chutney also doubles as spicy spread for sandwiches and easy to make.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup raw peanuts
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 4-5 whole dry red chillies
  • 1 Tbsp tamarind paste
  • 1 medium size onion chopped
  • 2 garlic pods
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt to taste

Method
 

  1. Shallow fry peanuts and red chillies in a pan over medium heat for 3 minutes.
  2. Transfer to a blender and grind them to a coarse powder.
  3. Add chopped onion, cumin seeds, garlic pods, salt and tamarind paste.
  4. Add water and blend it into a smooth paste and transfer to a bowl.
  5. Heat oil in the same pan and add mustard seeds, when they splutter, add curry leaves.
  6. Remove from the flame and pour it over chutney.
  7. Serve the chutney as side dish for idly, dosa or any other snack item.
