Preparing the yogurt mixture: Whisk the yogurt until smooth.
Mix all the ingredients under yogurt mixture with the whisked yogurt and set aside.
Preparing the onion fritters: Add all the ingredients under onion fritters except for water and oil and set it aside for 30 minutes.
The onions give out water after 30 minutes. Mix again well and add the ¼ cup water only if necessary. The batter should not be either very thick or very thin.
Heat oil for deep frying. Drop the batter with a spoon so as to fry the fritters in the oil until golden brown on both sides.
Set them aside.
Making khadi: In a deep bottomed vessel, heat oil and add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
Add the chopped onions and sauté them for a couple of minutes.
Add ginger, garlic, green chillies, dry red chillies and the curry leaves and fry for minute.
Add the yogurt mixture and cook it for 14 minutes in medium flame taking care not to burn the bottom.
After this lower the flame and cook until the khadi becomes thick. If it is too thick, add little water to thin it.
Turn off the flame and add the onion fritters and let them soak for 10 minutes and then serve it.
