Shortbread stars

If you want to make some easy yet delicious treats for the Christmas festivities or give your friends some yummy homemade biscuits, these shortbread stars will be very suitable. They are easy to make, last for a long time and go well with a cup of tea or spiced mulled wine.

Ingredients
  

  • 60 g granulated sugar
  • 120 g butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 180 g flour

Method
 

  1. Cream the butter with the sugar and vanilla. Sift the flour into the butter and, using a palette knife, mix into a firm dough.
  2. Form a ball, wrap with clingfilm and rest in the fridge for half an hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured board to 5mm thick, then stamp out star shapes using a cookie cutter or play-doh cutters.
  5. Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for 15-20 minutes until light brown.
  6. Transfer them onto a wire rack to cool. Dust with icing sugar.
