Sirloin Steak and BBQ Sauce

In my family this Sirloin Steak and BBQ Sauce recipe is a firm favourite. You can use other steaks but sirloin is normally just the right mix of flavour and tenderness. The sauce is quick and easy to make with ingredients that you normally have in the cupboard. Serve withperfect mashed potato!

Ingredients

  • 4 sirloin steaks about 200g each
  • 1 red onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic peeled & crushed
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • For the Sauce:
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 125 g tomato ketchup

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium/hot flame. Cook the onions until they soften.
  2. Add the crushed garlic, stir around the pan and then immediately add the steaks. Push down onto the onion & garlic for a few seconds, then turn over and do the same to the other side.
  3. Cook the steaks for 3 (rare) to 5 (well-done) minutes on each side. While they're cooking, combine all the sauce ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
  4. Remove the steaks to a warmed plate and cover to rest - but leave the cooking juices and bits in the pan.
  5. Add all the sauce ingredients to the pan and, stirring constantly, bring to a bubbly simmer.
  6. Plate up the steaks with the sauce spooned over, accompanied by your favourite vegetables and mash.
