Teriyaki beef burger

I love Teriyaki beef steak so I thought I’d make some Teriyaki beef burgers, using minced steak. They were really tasty, particularly  when served with my chosen condiments and pickles (lettuce,  wasabi mayo, Japanese cucumber salad, pickled ginger, pickled radishes, carrot & beetroot salsa). Of course you can serve them with your favourite toppings and sauces - the buns can be gluten-free too, or you can serve them without any bread base if you prefer.

Ingredients

  • 450 g steak mince
  • 1 tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tbsp Kikkoman soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp wasabi paste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 3 spring onion finely chopped
  • 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds optional
  • Ground pepper
  • To serve: buns; pickled cucumber /radish; lettuce wasabi mayo, picked ginger etc

Method

  1. Mix the mince with the other ingredients, then season with pepper (no need to add more salt, the soy is enough).
  2. Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal size portions. Make balls from these using your palms, then slightly flatten them.
  3. Put the patties a plate and rest for 30 minutes or until you’re ready to grill/BBQ them.
  4. Heat a griddle pan or grill/BBQ.
  5. Cook the burgers on each side for 3-5 minutes, depending on how well done you like your beef.
  6. Meanwhile, cut some buns in half and lightly toast them. Prepare your chosen condiments, relishes & pickles.
  7. When the patties are done, assemble the burgers to your liking and serve immediately.
