Bitter gourd fry
Background
Bitter gourd is a very healthy vegetable and liked by very few because of its bitter taste. It is my personal favourite despite its bitterness. There are so many variety of curries which can be made with this vegetable. This recipe is a side dish which is dry and goes well with steamed rice or roti.
Ingredients
- ½ kg Bitter Gourd (Cut into small pieces)
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- Salt as required
- 1-2 Garlic cloves (crushed)
- 1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Soak the bitter gourd pieces in some salted water for 10 min and squeeze out the water. This helps in removing the bitterness in it.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the squeezed bitter gourd pieces and the garlic cloves.
- Fry the bitter gourd until it becomes soft. Add the required salt and sugar.
- Switch off the stove and add the chilli powder and mix.
