Prawn curry with coconut milk

Prawn curry with coconut milk is a gravy based masala curry made using shrimp in south Indian style. This is a quick and easy recipe that best pairs with any fragrant rice and/or chapathis.

Ingredients
  

  • 300 gms prawns
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 pinches turmeric
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¼ tsp cumin powder
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Method
 

  1. Devein and wash the prawns. Set aside.
  2. Add 1 Tbsp oil to a pan and fry till transparent. Add ginger garlic paste and fry till the raw smell disappears.
  3. Add salt, turmeric, red chilli, coriander, cumin, garam masala powders and fry well for 5 minutes. Cool and blend to a smooth paste.
  4. Add another Tbsp of oil to the pan and add curry leaves and the prawns, fry for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour the ground mixture and add coconut milk and cook till the prawns are cooked.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with rice or chapathi.
