Prunes in crispy bacon

Prunes wrapped in crispy bacon is a classic sweet & savoury combination – indeed, a classic French appetizer. They go so well with a glass of bubbly, so these little examples of what the English calldevils on horsebackare perfect nibbles at drinks parties.

Ingredients
  

  • 12 strips of streaky bacon thin
  • 24 soft-dried prunes pitted
  • Almonds optional, see tips

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Cut the bacon into halves if they’re too long.
  3. Place a prune at one end of the bacon strip and roll it up, wrapping the prune tightly. Push a toothpick through the middle of the wrapped prune roll to secure. Repeat with the rest of the prunes and bacon.
  4. Place them on a non-stick or lined baking tray and bake for 10-15 minutes, turning over halfway through cooking, until the bacon is crispy on all sides.
  5. Serve warm or cool.
