Kottayam fish curry

Fish is one of my favourite foods. This Kottayam fish curry is from the town of Kottayam in the state of Kerala and it’s  simple and easy dish to make. This delicious curry goes well with steamed rice.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 whole Seabass cleaned and chopped into medium chunks
  • 2 Onions sliced
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 2 pieces of Malabar tamarind Kerala tamarind
  • 1 cup Cocount milk
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • A sprig of curry leaves
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp Chilli powder
  • Salt as required
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger garlic paste

Method
 

  1. Heat oil in a deep bottomed vessel. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves, green chillies and onions and fry until they are brown.
  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a couple of minutes.
  4. Add the water and Malabar tamarind and boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Add fish, turmeric, salt, coriander powder and chilli powder.
  6. Mix carefully taking care not to break the fish pieces.
  7. Cook until the fish is soft and the oil oozes out.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice
