Raw Banana Fry

Raw Bananas are used significantly for cooking in south India, especially in Kerala. Many ways of cooking, from snack to curries, are prevalent across the south. This recipe is a very simple roast and is a very good snack on a lazy evening with a few drinks and can be enjoyed with a drink or two.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large Raw Bananas
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • ½ tsp Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1-2 Stems of coriander leaves
  • 3 Tbsp Oil

Method
 

  1. Clean the raw banana with the skin on and dry. Chop the ends and any stems, then cut them into round pieces of about 3 cms thick.
  2. Marinate the pieces with chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt. Leave to rest for about 15 minutes.
  3. In a flat bottomed pan, add oil and once the oil is hot, fry the marinated pieces for 10 to 15 minutes till the pieces are cooked and turn dark in colour. Pay attention to ensure that the pieces do not get hardened.
  4. Remove from the pan once the oil is drained, apply the lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves.
