Background

Bruschetta is an Italian antipasto that has become very popular all around the world. This is the basic tomato version that's perfect as a snack or an appetizer at parties.

Ingredients

1 loaf of rustic or sourdough bread (flute or loaf)
1 clove of garlic
Olive oil
For the topping:
3 small, ripe tomatoes
1 small red onion
2 Tbsp chopped basil
1 Tbsp olive oil

Instructions

Cut the tomatoes in half, then remove the seeds. Chop the flesh finely.
Chop the onion and basil finely.
Combine everything in a mixing bowl, season to taste, set aside.
Cut the bread into 1 cm slices. Grill, barbecue or toast them on both sides until brown.
Rub the garlic over one side of the toasts then brush lightly with oil.
Top with a spoonful of the tomato mixture. Serve.
