Vegan chipotle black bean burger
This vegan chipotle black bean burger is a bit spicy, but for the smoky flavour you could use mild chipotle paste. The burger patties don’t contain gluten either, so if you serve it in gluten-free buns or with chips then you’ll have a vegan & gluten-free meal! Enjoy!
Ingredients
Method
- Thinly slice the onion and chop the garlic. Heat the oil in a saucepan and gently sauté the onion until soft. Add the garlic, stir for a few seconds, then add the spices and pastes. Stir for a minute then set aside.
- Meanwhile, drain the beans and put them a mixing bowl, then roughly mash them with a fork. Put them in a small food processor.
- Add the onion mixture and fresh herbs, flax seeds and salt & pepper. Process until you get a rough texture – it should not become a mash!
- Ideally rest for about 15-30 minutes, then add enough chickpea flour to able to form patties.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form patties.
- Heat a grill, griddle pan or frying pan.
- Spray or brush the patties with oil, then cook them for 3-5 minutes on both sides until golden.
- Serve them in a bun with lettuce, salsa and condiments of your choice. Alternatively, serve them with baked sweet potato wedges or chips and a salad.
