Arati Puvvu Pesarapappu curry
Arati Puvvu Pesarapappu curry is a popular dish in southern India. Arati puvvu is Banana flower and this curry is a combination of split yellow lentils. It’s very delicious and easy to make.

- Firstly we have to peel off the reddish leaves like outer part from Banana flower. Discard the leaves.
- You will find the flowerets attached, pluck each one and set aside.
- In each floweret, remove the pistil as a whole. This can be identified by checking for stalk with a sticky bob attached. Throw this stalk away.
- Apart from the pistil, we have to discard translucent outer most part of the floweret.
- Repeat the same for all the flowerets. Wash the flowerets with water.
- Add them to buttermilk and soak for 5 minutes. Squeeze the buttermilk off flowerets and make sure to remove all the liquid from them.
- Add the flowerets to a food processor to finely chop them.
- In a pan, add oil, mustard seeds and fry until them sputter. Add red chillies, crushed garlic, turmeric and curry leaves.
- Now add the lentils, green chillies and 1 cup water. Cook until the the lentils are half done.
- Add the flowerets to the lentils , add half cup of water and cover the pan with a lid. Cook until the lentils and flowerets are completely cooked and the water has evporated.
- Add salt as required and mix well.
- Finally add the grated coconut and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot with rice and ghee.
