Background
During the winter festivities most of us throwΒ or go toΒ several parties so it's good to know a few easy and delicious recipes that you can serve at yours or take along as a gift. Baked Camembert is one of those people-pleaser dishes that can be shared and enjoyed with friends. This version is baked with rosemary and garlic, but you can make it with thyme too. As to serving it - gherkins, crudities, garlic bread, bread-sticks and tortilla chips are perfect for dipping.
Ingredients
- 1 whole Camembert in its box
- 1 long rosemary sprigs ( or 3 sprigs of thyme)
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 Tbsp olive oil or Kirsch/Vermouth/white wine
- To serve: honey (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180Β°C. Remove the wax paper and return the cheese to its box.
- Slice the garlic. Cut the herbs into 2-3 cm batons.
- Score the rind with a knife in half a dozen places and push the herbs and a sliver of garlic into each cut. Drizzle the top with a little oil or the alcohol. Put on the lid and place the cheese in an ovenproof dish. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until melted.
- Remove the lid and drizzle with some the honey if you'd like a bit of sweetness.
- Serve warm.
Tips
- For bonfire night double-wrap the cheese in aluminium foil and cook it on a barbecue (under a lid) for 15 minutes, or until melted.
- For a spicy version, push some sliced chilli or dried chilli flakes into the cuts with, or instead of, the garlic.
