Cheese and fig chutney croffle

Background
Iβve been reading about the trend of croffles, particularly in Korea and other East-Asain Countries, and wanted to try it out for ages. A croffle is basically a croissant made crispy in a waffle maker, then served with spread and sauces. Sometimes it is stuffed with jam, fruits, cheese, ham and so on. I made this Cheese and fig chutney croffle with Gruyere cheese but I think it would work with Stilton, Gorgonzola or mature Cheddar too. I must say, the croffle was sensational - but it took ages to clean the waffle machine afterwards, as the cheese melted and stuck to the iron plate! I used my homemadeΒ balsamic fig chutney for this special version, which is perfect for breakfast during the winter holidays.
Ingredients
- 2 croissants
- 4 thin slices of cheese of your choice
- 2 Tbsp fig jam or chutney
Instructions
- Turn on the waffle maker.
- Cut the croissants in half (lengthwise). Lay 2 slices of cheese on the bottom half, then evenly spread the chutney on top. Put the top half back on, then put one croissant in the waffle maker (or both if they fit) and press the top of the machine down.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes or until it reaches the desired crispiness. Wipe the iron plates then repeat with the other croissant.
- Serve warm.Β
