Chicken curry in milk

Background
I gotΒ this recipe from my husband. He learnt it from his roommate during his college days. It's very easy to make and a good recipe which can be made with simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 750g Chicken, cut into medium pieces (preferably on bone)
- 3 Onions, chopped
- 2 Green chillies, chopped
- 4 Cloves
- 2 Cardamoms
- 1" Cinnamon stick
- 1 Bay leaf
- 1 Star anise
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 2 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 Tbsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- ¾ cup Milk
- Salt as required
- 2 Tbsp Oil
- 1 Tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp Garam masala
Instructions
- In a deep bottomed vessel, heat oil and add cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, star anise and bay leaf.
- Add the chopped onions and fry until brown and add the ginger garlic paste and mix.
- Add the green chillies and turmeric and fry for a minute.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and the red chilli powder and mix.
- Add the chicken pieces to this and fry for 5 minutes.
- Add a cup of water to the chicken and salt and boil until it is 70% cooked.
- At this time add the milk and lower the flame and simmer until the chicken is cooked fully.
