Coriander and tomato chutney

Background
Coriander and tomato chutney is easy to make and healthy as well. This chutney makes a great side for idli or dosa. This also goes well with rice and ghee.
Ingredients
- 3 medium sized tomatoes (cut into medium sized pieces)
- 3 red Chilies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- Tamarind (½ lemon sized)
- 3 green chillies
- 3 bunches of coriander leaves
- 1 Tbsp oil
- For seasoning:
- ½ tsp oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp split black gram
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- A pinch of asafoetida
Instructions
- Take a pan, add ½ Tbsp oil , red chillies, cumin seeds, coriander leaves and sauté until the leaves are soft. Keep aside.
- In the same pan , add the remaining oil and add tomatoes , green chillies to it. Cook until soft and done.
- Add the coriander and red chillies mixture , also tomatoes and green chillies mixture with tamarind to a mixer.
- Ground the ingredients to coarse paste. Take it out in a vessel.
- In the same pan, add all the ingredients for tempering. Saute until the mustard seeds sputter. Add the seasoning to chutney.
- This chutney goes well with rice and ghee or idli or dosa.
