Background
Drumstick leaves are very healthy in many ways. Some of which are purification of blood and healing wounds in the stomach. This recipe is not only healthy but also tasty.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Split pigeon peas (Toor dal)
- 1 Cup Drumstick leaves
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- Blend:
- ½ Cup grated coconut
- 1 Green chilli
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- Seasoning:
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 Dry red chilli
- A sprig of curry leaves
- A pinch asafoetida
- 1 tsp Oil
- Salt as required
Instructions
- Pressure cook lentils and drumstick leaves together until the lentils are soft and cooked by adding 2 cups of water to the lentils.
- Blend together the ingredients for the blending. Set it aside.
- Mash the lentils and leaves with a spoon and put it on medium low flame and add turmeric and salt and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Now add the blended paste and boil for another 5-10 minutes. Switch off the flame.
- In a separate pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds, red chilli, asafoetida and curry leaves and let them splutter. Immediately add it to the lentils. Serve hot with roti or steamed rice.
