Fennel baked spare ribs with BBQ glaze

Background
I was given a bottle of Jack Danielโs Tennessee Honey BBQ sauce as a present so I decided to try it out. I made these fennel baked spare ribs BBQ glaze and served it with baked sweet potato wedges and coleslaw. The ribs were nice and tender, but to be hones, the glaze is nothing special - you can use any BBQ sauce sold in your local store or your homemade one! The ribs are perfect nibbles at parties! You can precook the dish in the oven, then grill or barbecue the glazed ribs just before you're ready serve them.
Ingredients
- 20 Spare ribs (about 750g)
- 1 large fennel bulb
- 1 onion
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- 1 glass of white wine or apple juice
- 4 Tbsp BBQ glaze
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 170°C.
- Put the ribs into a baking dish. Cut the onion and fennel into wedges. Tuck these between the ribs.
- Mix the fennel seed, garlic powder, salt and pepper and rub the ribs and fennel with this mixture.
- Pour the wine or apple juice in the dish, cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
- Brush the ribs & fennel with the BBQ sauce and bake for another 20-30 minutes until the ribs look golden and sticky.
