French beans patolli

Background
Patolli is a traditional south Indian dish made with a combination of lentils and vegetables such asΒ okra, cluster beans, cabbage, raw banana or French beans. ItΒ is very tasty and healthy. In today's recipe,Β I have made a French beans patolli.
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped French beans
- 1 cup lentils / Bengal gram dal soaked in water for 2 hrs
- 1 big onion chopped
- 2 green chillies slit and cut
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 2 whole dry red chillies
- 1β piece ginger
- Pinch of turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp black lentils
- Pinch of asafetida
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Grind the soaked lentils with ginger, dry red chillies, cumin seeds into a coarse paste by adding little water and salt to taste.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Now add black lentils, asafetida and curry leaves and fry for few seconds.
- Add green chillies, onion and fry till translucent.
- Now add the ground paste and mix well. Cook stirring once in a while for 12-15 minutes.
- The patoli should have dry sautΓ© look like stir fry. This goes very well with steamed rice.
