Grape & fig turnovers
Background
It's always useful to keep a pack of puff pastry in your fridge or freezer so thatΒ you can make fantastic, easy or last-minute treats, snacks or party food. These grape & fig turnovers take very little time & effort to prepare, yet they taste fantastic. Perfect for afternoon tea, breakfast, brunch, picnics & parties.
Ingredients
- 1 pack ready rolled puff pastry
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp lemon zest
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp flour
- 1 egg
- 1 cup chopped figs (about 4 pieces)
- ½ cup of grapes, each cut in half
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Separate the egg into two small bowls.
- Wash and wipe the fruits then chop them into 1 cm pieces. Mix the cinnamon, flour, lemon zest and sugar, then add to the fruits. Combine well.
- Unpack and roll out the pastry, then cut it into 10-12 cm squares.
- Make an imaginary line between two opposite corners across the squares - you're going to fold them into a triangle shape along this line.
- Whip the egg white slightly, then brush the edges of the squares with this.
- Add 1-2 spoonful of the sugared fruit mixture onto one side of your imaginary line. Fold the pastry in half to create the triangle shape, and press the edges together.
- Place the turnovers onto a lined baking tray and brush with the beaten egg yolk.
- Bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
- Let them cool on a wire rack.
