Background
This steak sandwich has a real kick to it. It's ideal for BBQ parties, picnics & sporty get-togethers; also for a laid-back weekend lunch or midweek supper.
Ingredients
- 1 thick, matured sirloin steak (about 300g)
- 1 Tbsp harissa paste
- 1 handful of mint leaves
- For the sandwich:
- 1 loaf ciabatta bread or 2 rolls
- 2 Tbsp red onion jam or caramelised onion
- 1 handful of rocket leaves
- about 50g feta cheese
- a few mint leaves
Instructions
- Wipe the meat dry and let it reach room temperature.
- Using a mortar & pestle grind the harissa paste with the mint leave and 1 pinch of salt into a coarse paste.
- Rub the steak with this paste and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, cut the ciabatta bread or rolls in half, sprinkle with some little olive oil, and toast them in a griddle pan or on a BBQ until slightly charred.
- Place the steak carefully in the pan, cook on both sides for one minute then turn over every minute until it's cooked through to your taste (about 5-6 minutes for medium).
- Transfer it to a plate, rest for 5 minutes.
- Spread the bottom half of the ciabatta with onion jam and add some rocket leaves.
- Slice the steak into 1cm strips, put these on top of the rocket and scatter feta, rocket and mint leaves on top. Put the upper half of the bread on, press down lightly and enjoy!
