Honey and orange baked figs
Background
Baked figs with honey & pistachio is classic Greek dessert, normally served with creamy yoghurt. I made my version a bit more festive by adding orange to the recipe - so these Honey and orange baked figs are perfect during the winter festivities, particularly in a Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day or special anniversary menu.
Ingredients
- 8 small ripe figs
- 1 tsp of soft butter or dairy-free spread
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1 small orange, zest and juice
- about 200g Greek yogurt or plant-based yogurt
- 50g pistachio nuts (unsalted)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Cut the figs in half and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- Mix the orange juice with the honey.
- Rub the figs with a piece of butter then drizzle the orange honey over them.
- Bake for 15 minutes until the figs are tender and sticky.
- Meanwhile, mix the yogurt with the grated orange zest.
- Coarsely chop the pistachio.
- Spoon the figs into small dessert bowls ( 2 or 4 per person). Add a dollop of yogurt, scatter some pistachio pieces on top, then drizzle with the baking jus and some more honey if you like.
- Serve warm.
