Mince pie twists
Background
If you have some leftover mincemeat, you can us it up for quick and easy treats such as these mince pie twists. These are perfect for festive parties, also for events well into the New Year. During the winter holidays I normally add some orange zest and, if I still have some mincemeat left at spring-time, I also some lemon zest. It goes really well with mulled wine!
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp soft cane sugar
- Zest of 1 lemon or orange
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pack of ready-rolled puff pastry
- 4-5 Tbsp mincemeat
- 1 egg yolk - beaten
- Icing sugar to serve
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Mix together the sugar, lemon zest and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Unwrap the pastry and roll it onto a flat surface. Cut the pastry in half widthwise. Spread the mincemeat over one half. Brush the other half with the egg and sprinkle some cinnamon sugar all over. Place this half on top of the mincemeat (facing downwards) and press them together firmly.
- Brush the top with the remaining egg and sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon sugar then trim the edges.
- Cut the pastry into 12 strips lengthways, then cut all across the middle to create 24 straws in total. wist each strip a couple of times, then place them onto a lined baking tray.
- Bake for about 15 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Let them cool then move to a serving plate and serve with icing sugar dusted all over them.
