Onion samosa
Background
Onion samosa is deep fried, triangle shaped snack prepared with pastry sheets and onion stuffing. An ideal recipe perfect for kitty party and even for evening snack. Perhaps one of the most common crispy samosa easily available in college cafeterias, railway stations and even in parks. It is also popularly known as mini samosa or Irani samosa. You can prepare the samosa with homemade pastry sheets or with spring roll sheets. These sheets are available from any local store or super markets. I have used spring roll sheets in this recipe.
Ingredients
- 8 large spring roll sheets
- 1 onion thinly sliced
- ½ cup thin coarsely ground flattened rice
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- ¼ tsp dry mango powder
- 1 tsp ginger finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- 2 Tbsp coriander leaves chopped
- Oil for deep frying
- 2 Tbsp all- purpose flour
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan and add the onion and salt. Saute until the onion is slightly wilted.
- Add red chilli powder, dry mango powder and chopped ginger. Mix well and sauté for a minute and turn off the flame.
- Add the chopped coriander leaves and coarsely ground flattened rice to the onion mixture. Mix well and leave the mixture to cool down.
- Mix all-purpose flour with sufficient water to make thick paste.
- Cut the spring roll sheets into rectangles and fold it in the form of a triangle and fill with a small portion of onion mixture.
- Use the all-purpose flour paste to close the edges.
- Heat oil in a pan for deep frying and fry the samosa in batches till golden brown. Drain the excess oil in paper napkin.
- Enjoy hot samosa with tomato sauce or green chutney.
