Pear and Gorgonzola bites wrapped in Prosciutto
Background
These pear and Gorgonzola bites wrapped in Prosciutto are perfect nibbles during the winter festivities, particularly at Christmas & New Year’s Eve parties. It’s incredibly to easy to make them, can be prepared well in advance, and most importantly, they are absolutely delicious! The combination of sweet pears, tangy blue cheese and salty cured ham is just sensational but if you want an extra layer of sweetness, drizzle some honey or balsamic glaze on top just before serving. You can also scatter some chopped walnuts over them to add an earthy dimension. Serve with a glass of Prosecco or Cava.
Ingredients
- 2 pears
- Juice of ½ lemon
- ½ pack Gorgonzola cheese ( approx 50g)
- 8 thinly sliced prosciutto
Instructions
- Cut the pears into 4 wedges and remove their core. Squeeze some lemon juice over them to prevent browning. Cut each wedge in half, lengthwise. You should have 16 wedges altogether.
- Cut 16 thin (about 5x2cm) slices of cheese.
- Cut the prosciutto slices in half lengthwise and lay them on a chopping board. Add a pear wedge to the centre of each and a slice of the Gorgonzola cheese, then wrap carefully. Use a toothpick or appetiser stick to hold the bite together, if you like.
- Serve immediately or cover and chill until ready to serve. (Just before serving you can drizzle with some honey, balsamic glaze, pomegranate syrup or cranberry sauce.)
