Background
Fresh or frozen, prawns are one of the easiest seafoods to cook. This combination of prawns and rice is very scrumptious and melts away in your mouth! Prawns pulao is very easy to make and should be served hot with some raita.
Ingredients
- 100g de-shelled and de-veined prawns
- 1 Onion (Finely chopped)
- 1 Tomato (Finely chopped)
- 1 cup Rice
- 1½ cups Water
- 1 Tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 Green chilli
- 5-6 Leaves of mint (Finely chopped)
- ¼ bunch of coriander (Finely chopped)
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- Salt as required
- 1 tsp Freshly grated ginger
- 1 tsp Freshly grated garlic
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
Instructions
- In a deep heavy-bottomed vessel, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onion and fry until brown on a medium heat.
- Add the freshly grated ginger, garlic, green chilli, mint leaves, coriander leaves and turmeric and fry for a minute.
- Add the tomato and prawns and fry until the water from the prawns comes out.
- Now add the rice, water and salt and cook under lid on a very low flame.
- Cook until all the water is absorbed and switch off the flame.
- Let this rest for a while (approximately 10 minutes) and serve hot.
Tips
Normally 1 cup rice needs 2 cups water to cook but here the prawns release some water when cooked. So, the water for the 1 cup rice is reduced to 1½ cups.© 2024 Copyright CookTogether
