Background
If you want to make some lovely treats for the kids and/or snacks to have with your morning coffee or afternoon teaΒ - try this recipe! These cinnamon rolls are super-easy to make, smell divine and taste reallyΒ yummy. They're perfect for parties, picnics and trips too!
Ingredients
- 50g soft butter or dairy-free margarine
- 50g soft unrefined cane sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 50g raisins (optional)
- 1 egg, beaten (perhaps mixed with 2 Tbsp milk )
- 1 pack of ready-rolled puff pastry
- extra sugar
Instructions
- Cream the butter, sugar and cinnamon together.
- Roll out the puff pastry (on its packaging sheet) and spread the butter-cream evenly on top. Sprinkle with the raisins.
- Roll up the pastry along its long side. If you have time, cover the roll tightly with cling-film and chill for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 200Β°C.
- When the sausage-roll is solid, cut it up into 1.5 cm slices using a sharp knife. Place these on a lined or greased baking sheet allowing plenty of space between them (they will double in size).
- Brush the top with the egg-wash and sprinkle with a little sugar. Bake for 15 minutes until golden and transfer them onto a wire rack to cool.
Tips
- The same method can be used for other rolls. Instead of cinnamon, you can use cocoa powder, melted chocolate, jam or thick custards - raisins can also be substituted with other dried fruits, seeds or nuts.
- If dairy is an issue for you, make sure you use dairy-free puff pastry (not the all-butter) kind!
