Raw Jackfruit curry

Background
Is raw Jackfruit (unripe, young) edible? I never knew the answer to this until my mother-in-law cooked made this dish. The texture is so different and the curry is so yummy. The cleaning process is bit messy and tedious. But we get cleaned and cut raw Jackfruit from the local market in India.
Ingredients
- One small tender raw Jackfruit cleaned and cut
- 1 medium size onion
- 1 cup grated coconut
- Salt to taste
- 2 Tbsp oil
- 2 broken red chillies
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp split black gram
- 1 tsp split yellow lentils
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 2-3 garlic pods
Instructions
- Boil water in a deep bottomed vessel and add the raw Jackfruit pieces until soft.
- Drain the excess water and mash the Jackfruit pieces using a spoon. Keep aside.
- Heat pan with oil. Add mustard seeds, black gram, yellow lentils, cumin seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and the garlic pods.
- Saute for a minute and add mashed Jackfruit. Add salt and fry on a low flame for 5 minutes.
- Add grated coconut and fry for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and transfer to serving bowl.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
