Background
Semolina halwa is a simple sweet dish prepared often in Indian homes for festivals and celebrations. This dish is fairly uncomplicated to make and is delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 cup semolina
- ΒΎ cup sugar
- ΒΌ cup clarified butter
- 4 green cardamoms powdered
- 10 cashews
- 1 Tbsp. raisins
- 1 Β½ cup water
- 1 pinch edible camphor (optional)
- 1 pinch edible orange color
Instructions
- Place a deep bottomed pan on low flame.
- Add clarified butter to the pan. Heat the butter for 1 min.
- Add the semolina to the clarified butter. Keep stirring till it turns slightly brown.
- Once it turns brown, add sugar, powdered cardamom, a pinch of edible orange color and water.
- Semolina will begin to absorb water, keep stirring to avoid lumps and until the whole mixture starts thickening and starts to leave the edge of the pan.
- Remove from the flame and set it aside.
- Take a small pan and add little clarified butter. Heat the butter for 1 min.
- Add cashew and raisins and fry till the cashews turn brown. Add to semolina mixture.
- Serve at room temperature or cold.
