If you want some lovely nibbles to accompany a glass or two, do try this delicious snack! This fried spiced calamari is ready in 10 minutes – can be eaten warm or cold so it’s ideal for parties & picnics or as an appetizer/starter at a dinner party.
Ingredients
- 6 cleaned whole calamari (with tentacles)
- 2 Tbsp gram or rice flour
- 1 tsp paprika ( or half-half chilli powder)
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp dried curry leaves
- Salt and pepper
- Lemon wedges to serve
Instructions
- Wash the calamari, remove the tentacles, then pat dry with paper towels, then cut them into 5mm rounds. Keep the tentacles!
- In a bowl, mix the paprika/chilli powder, turmeric, flour and salt & pepper. Put this mixture in a freezer bag.
- Lightly whisk the eggs in a bowl. Dip the calamari and tentacles into this, allowing the excess to drip off. Put the calamari into the bag of seasoned flour and shake it to coat them well.
- Heat some oil in a wok or a deep pan. Add the curry leaves.
- Deep fry the calamari in batches until golden, then drain them on paper towels.
- Serve warm with lime/lemon wedges.
