Spiced turkey burgers
Background
Minced turkey is perfect for making burgers because of its texture - it's also more healthy than red meat and the patties don't need any eggs. These spiced turkey burgers are very easy to prepare, and quick to cook. This is an ideal recipe for summer BBQ parties or for an easy family meal. If you don't want bread, just serve it with grilled sweet potatoes or chips.
Ingredients
- 300g minced turkey
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1½ tsp fennel seeds
- ¼ tsp chili powder
- 50g mozzarella cheese (optional)
- To serve: buns, mayonnaise, lettuce, ketchup, gherkins, etc.
Instructions
- Crush the fennel and cumin seeds using a pestle & mortar.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mince and the spices, season with salt and pepper. Form two or three balls, flatten these slightly between your palms. Put them on a plate and chill until needed.
- Turn on your grill or BBQ. Brush the patties with some oil and cook them over medium heat for 3-5 minutes. Flip the burgers, cover them with mozzarella slices if you want cheese on top. Cook for 3-5 minutes. When the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked through, transfer them to a plate.
- Cut the buns in half, toast them, then spread mayonnaise on bottom half, layer lettuce, tomato, onion and pickled cucumber and add the burger. Cover with the other half of the bun and serve.
Tips
If you don't have a barbecue or a grill - just use a griddle pan or frying pan!Categories
