Background
I love spiced-up and tasty burgers, so I always look out for unusual or interesting burger recipes. The recipe of these sweet chilli burgers didn't disappoint, although next time I'll definitely add extra chilli or chilli flakes to the mince mixture. These burgers are perfect for barbecues, parties or for a midweek supper.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 450g minced beef
- 1 clove of garlic, crushed
- Β½ Tbsp ground coriander
- Β½ Tbsp ground cumin
- 2 Tbsp sweet chilli sauce
- 2 Tbsp tomato purΓ©e
- 1 tsp mustard
- ΒΌ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp freshly chopped coriander
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: chopped chilli or crushed chilli flakes
- To serve: buns, lettuce, sweet chilli sauce, spicy gherkins, spring onion
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and gently cook the onion for about 5 minutes until soft. Set aside.
- Mix together all the ingredients in a bowl, add the cooked onion and season to taste. Add some crushed chilli flakes or chopped fresh chilli if you like the burgers to have more heat.
- Shape the mixture into 6-8 burgers and chill for 10-15 minutes.
- Fry, grill or barbecue the burgers for about 5 minutes each side, depending on how well done you like your burger.
- Cut the buns in half and toast or barbecue them cut-side facing down.
- Put a lettuce leaf on the lower part, add the burger, topped with a few slices of gherkin & spring onion, then drizzled with sweet chilli sauce. Cover with the upper half of the bun and enjoy!
