Witches finger breadsticks
Background
If you want a quick and easy snack for Halloween, try these witches finger breadsticks. They can be made from ready rolled pizza dough under just 15 minutes! Serve the “fingers” witch scary, red sauces - such as ketchup, chilli sauce, pizza sauce, beetroot hummus and so on. Instead of almonds you could use beetroot, red pepper, onion cut into nail shape and stick these onto the end of the breadsticks with the egg wash or ketchup.
Ingredients
- 1 ready-made pizza dough
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp water
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- Whole almonds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the pizza dough onto a lightly floured work surface. Using a pizza cutter, cut the sheet into 8cm long 1 cm wide pieces (a bit smaller than an average a finger).
- Using a blunt knife, draw lines in the middle of the sticks, looking like the knuckle on a human finger.
- Place the breadsticks onto the lined baking sheet, not too close to each other.
- Mix the egg and water in a small bowl. Brush each finger lightly with the mixture. For a vegan version, brush them with plant-based milk. For a more dramatic effect you can use ketchup around the fingertips or knuckles.
- Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, if liked.
- Press down firmly one end of each breadsticks, then place one almond onto the flattened area pushing it into the dough.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Serve with your chosen sauce.
