Kala jamun
Background
Kala jamun is a delicious and scrumptious dessert for any special occasion or parties. Jamuns are fried milk dumplings that are soaked in sugar syrup β unbelievably soft and just melt in your mouth!! They get their name kala jamun because of the dark color. βkalaβ means βblackβ and hence these are referred as βkala jamunsβ.
Ingredients
- 100 gms khoya (condensed solid state of creamy milk)
- 50 gms all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Β½ tsp baking soda
- 2-3 Tbsp milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
Instructions
- In a big pan add sugar and add water. Bring it to boil on a medium flame. Boil it till it reaches one string consistency. Keep the syrup aside.
- In a bowl add khoya, all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder. Mix well.
- Slowly add milk, do not add all at once.
- Start kneading the mix till it comes together like a dough.
- Take a small amount of dough to make cylindrical shaped jamuns.
- Repeat the process with rest of the dough and shape jamuns.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the jamuns in batches under low flame till they turn dark in color.
- Put them in sugar syrup immediately after they are fried.
- Let them soak for 5-6 hours in the syrup.
- Refrigerate the jamuns and serve.
