Background
I always keep a bag of mixed berries in the freezer as they're really useful for making easy desserts and healthy treats. This mixed berry oat crumble is yummy and super-easy to make - also it's healthier than most of the crumble recipes out there!
Ingredients
- 500g frozen mixed berries (summer or forest fruits)
- 100g healthy flour (see Tips )
- 50g rolled oats
- 50g fructose or unrefined cane sugar
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- 100g diced butter or dairy-free margarine
- 50g hazelnuts, chopped
Instructions
- Put the fruit into a greased, oven-proof dish. Sprinkle with some sugar.
- Mix the remaining sugar with the flour, mixed spice and oatmeal.
- Add the butter and rub everything together with your fingers into a crumble.
- Add the chopped hazelnuts, mix well.
- Cover the berries with the crumble, slightly pressing down.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden
- Serve warm with custard, vanilla ice-cream or Greek yoghurt.
Tips
You can use wholemeal wheat, spelt, rye, buckwheat, brown rice flour or any gluten-free mixtures. If you like your crumble to be thick - double the amount of oats. Hazelnuts can be substituted with almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts, seeds etc.© 2024 Copyright CookTogether
