Background
Apple sauce goes really well with roast pork or turkey and it's so easy to make. This spiced version is particularly nice during the winter holiday season. Any leftover can be used in muffins, pancakes, stuffing or served on Β party bites, in sandwiches etc.
Ingredients
- 5 green apple (like Bramleys)
- 25g butter or dairy-free margarine
- 1 star anise
- 2 pinch of ground cinnamon
- Half cinnamon stick
- 150 ml apple juice
Instructions
- Peel and core the apples, then slice the flesh thinly.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the apple slices and spices. Fry for 1-2 minutes.
- When the apple begins to brown, add the apple juice and simmer for about 10 minutes, under cover, stirring occasionally. If it gets too sticky add more apple juice.
- When the apples have softened, turn off the heat and let it rest . Discard the spices or set aside for decoration. Using a fork, mash the apple roughly.
- Serve it warm or cold.
