Background
If you want a simple, reliable burger recipe, do try this one! This classic beef burger is an English version which is slightly spicy and incredibly tasty. Also, it takes very little effort to prepare the patties. I must say, this is THE dependable burger recipe that I always use when I don't want to try out anything new, or I want to cook something I know is delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 kg minced beef
- 1 small onion, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp strong mustard (English or Dijon)
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 handful parsley, chopped
- 1 large gherkin, chopped into tiny pieces
- 1 large egg yolk
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Recommended to serve with:
- Buns, onion rings, tomato slices, grilled peppers, cheese (eg. Cheddar or Gruyere), avocado slices, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce leaves and so on
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl using your hands. Cover the bowl with cling film and chill until needed (for at least 1 hour, if time allows).
- With wet hands form 8 balls , then flatten these slightly between your palms. Brush the patties on both sides with some oil, the griddle, fry or barbecues them to your liking. You can put a slice of cheese on top of them if you like.
- Meanwhile, cut the buns in half, then toast, barbecue or grill them.
- Brush the bottom half the buns with mustard mixed with mayonnaise, then add a layer of lettuce, tomato slices, avocado, grilled pepper etc. Put the putties on top with a slice of onion or a spoonful of caramelized onion. Finally, cover the patties with the top half of the buns. Serve immediately.
- Alternatively serve the patties with French fries and/or a salad.
