Background
Chocolate avocado mousse may sound unusual at first, but it’s surprisingly rich, smooth and delicious. The avocado gives the mousse a naturally creamy texture, while the cocoa provides deep chocolate flavour. The result is a light dessert that feels indulgent but is actually quite wholesome.
This simple mousse is naturally gluten-free and can easily be made vegan by using plant-based yoghurt. It’s perfect as a quick treat, but also elegant enough to serve as a lighter dessert at a dinner party.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup, date syrup or agave syrup
- 2 Tbsp Greek yoghurt or soy yoghurt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half, remove the stone and scoop the flesh into a blender or small food processor.
- Add the cocoa powder, syrup, yoghurt and vanilla extract.
- Blend until the mixture becomes completely smooth, light and creamy.
- Spoon the mousse into two small glasses or bowls and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and chill.
- Serve with a small dollop of yoghurt on top if you like.
