Background
This simple dal is made in a pressure cooker so it's quick & easy and tasty too! It has a very mild taste to it and goes very well with steamed rice or roti.
Ingredients
- ΒΎ cup Toor dal, washed (Pigeon peas)
- ΒΌ cup Chana dal, washed (Bengal gram dal)
- 2 cups Water
- 1 Onion chopped
- 1 Tomato chopped
- 2 Cloves garlic (finely chopped)
- Β½ tsp Mustard seeds
- Β½ tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Dry red chilli
- Salt as required
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Turmeric
Instructions
- Pressure cook both the washed dals together with 2 cups of water according to your pressure cooker specifications.
- In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, garlic and red chilli. Let them splutter. Add the onion and fry until brown.
- Add the tomato and fry until soft. Add this to the pressure cooked dals.
- On medium flame, let the dals boil along with turmeric and salt.
- If the consistency is very thick, add ΒΌth cup water to loosen the dals.
- Serve hot with rice or roti.
