Simple Indian dal

Background
This simple Indian dal is one of my comfort food which gives me immense satisfaction when eaten with steamed rice. It is very easy to prepare and requires only simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Pigeon peas (Toor dal)
- 2 Garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 2 Dry red chillies
- A sprig of curry leaves
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 2 tsp Oil
- Salt as required
Instructions
- Cook the toor dal in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water according to your pressure cooker specifications.
- After the dal is cooked, smash the dal and add a cup of water and set aside.
- In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, garlic, asafoetida and curry leaves and let them splutter.
- Add the above seasoning to the dal.
- Now boil the dal with salt for 2 minutes and serve hot.
