Swedish-style baked meatballs
Background
Who doesnβt love the meatballs from IKEA, even though they donβt taste anything like the real Swedish meatballs? The good news is that they incredibly easy to make at home from scratch , even the sauce that normally comes with it. The recipe of this Swedish-style baked meatballs is my own version - I added mustard and used cornflour so that they can be gluten-free. For a low-carb version chickpea flour can be used. I served them as party nibbles with a gherkin & dill sour cream sauce but you can serve them with other sauces or dips. Alternatively serve them with pasta or chips as a main meal.
Ingredients
- 350g minced pork
- A handful dill, finely chopped
- 1 egg, beaten
- Salt & pepper
- 3 Tbsp cornflour or chickpea flour
- 1 Tbsp German mustard
Instructions
- Put the mince in a mixing bowl. Add all other ingredients and combine them well with your hands.
- If you have time, rest the mixture in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180Β°C.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make small, golf-ball sized meatballs from the mince mixture between your palms. Put these on the lined baking tray.
- Bake the meatballs for about 20 minutes, turning them every 5 minutes or so.
- When they are nice brown, put them on a wire rack to cool.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
