My mum and I made these spooky spider deviled eggs last year for our Halloween party.Β It was very successful and quite easy to make, everybody loved them! Β These donβt have any dairy in them but you can add soured crΓ¨me or crΓ¨me fraîche to it if you like (or instead of mayo). Adults might like a drop of Tabsaco or a few pinches of cayenne pepper in the yolk mixture!
Youβll need:
- 12 eggs
- 5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 Tbsps Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Freshly ground pepper
- Pitted whole black olives
- Lemon juice
This is what to do:
- Put the eggs in a pan, cover with cold water and cook until the water starts boiling.Β Then put a cover on, Β turn off the heat and let the eggs cook for 6 minutes.Β Rinse the eggs under cold water then take the shells off gently with your fingers. Let them cool.
- Cut the eggs in half and spoon out the egg yolk into a bowl. Add the mustard, mayo, salt & pepper. Mash with a fork until smooth. Taste it, and add enough lemon juice to your liking.Β Also, you can add more mayo, mustard or seasoning. Adults can add a pinch of chilli pepper or a drop of Tabasco too!
- Fill the egg whites with the mashed egg yolk, using a teaspoon.
- Cut the olives in half lengthwise.Β Put one half on the mashed yolk for the spider’s body.Β Thinly slice the other half of the olive to make Β spiders legs. Put four legs on each side ( not two like I did on the picture!).
