Background
Coconut chutney is a great combination with dosa (Indian pancake) or idli (Steamed Indian breakfast). It is very easy to make and a refreshing combination. It is a popular accompaniment with many of the South Indian snacks and breakfasts.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Freshly grated coconut
- 1 Green chilli
- 1 Small clove of garlic
- ½" Piece of ginger
- 2 Pieces of onion (or one small onion found in Indian stores)
- Salt as required
- ¼ tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 Red chilli dry
- A sprig of curry leaves
- 1 tsp Oil
Instructions
- Blend coconut, green chilli, garlic, ginger, salt, onion and sugar to a very fine paste.
- In a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds, red chilli and the curry leaves until they splutter.
- Immediately add this seasoning to the coconut paste.
- Serve as an accompaniment to dosa or idli or any other snack.
